Language Arts/ Social Studies
This week's story is Pop's Bridge. This realistic fiction story is about two boys whose fathers help build the Golden Gate Bridge. We will the location of this story start learning about mapping skills.
Pop's Bridge Vocabulary Words:
excitement - a feeling of great happiness
stretch - to extend or spread out
disappears - that somthing passes from sight
foggy - that there is a thick mist or low clouds
balancing - keeping steady
cling - something is to stick to it or hang on tightly
tide - the rise and fall of the sea
crew - a group of people doing work

Every Monday we will take a spelling pretest over the regular list of words. If you child earns a 100%, they will be assigned the Challenge List. Both lists will be tested on Friday.

Math
This week we will continue place value. Students will be able to read and write numbers in standard form, word form and expanded form. This week we will go all the way to the hundred thousands!
Example:
Standard Form: 125, 431
Expanded Form: 100,000 + 20,000 + 5,000 + 400 + 30 + 1 = 125,431
Word Form: one hundred twenty-five thousand four hundred thirty-one

Science
Students will begin applying the scientific method. We will practice each step this week during simple investigations.

Writing
Students will learn how to identify and write the subject and predicate to make a complete sentence. We will continue writing personal narratives and practice editing skills with capitalization and punctuation.
