The children will be practicing making visual images about the story. Math

Topic 11 - Building to 999

The children will be working on making numbers in the hundreds by writing them in expanded notation.

( Ex. 100 +20 + 3 = 123)

They will also be adding and subtracting by hundred and tens using hundreds charts to find the pattern.

The children will be continuing with the FASTMATH program which helps them master the addition and subtraction facts.  It is timed responses for immediate recall.  Work on the flashcards at home will help them greatly.

website to practice math facts and skills:

www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

See the letter with your child's username and password to allow more practice in math.  There are many games and math fact drill for them to do on the computer once they go to the Pearson Success website.

Keep studying the facts: doubles, doubles +1 or near doubles, +0,+1,+2,  make 10 add the extra. Now they can write the related subtraction fact to go with the addition facts because for every addition fact there is a related subtraction fact.  Timed related and addition facts will be sent home.  They must complete all 25 problems in 1 1/2 minutes accurately.  Practice the ones missed and review with them.

Science/Social Studies

Science:  We're continuing with the unit on Force and Motion.  There will be lessons on how light energy is affected by what it strikes.  When light strikes an object, it can be classified as transparent, opaque, or translucent.  The children will be learning about these terms indirectly through activities. Also, they will learn that heat energy flows from warmer to colder in an experiment and when heat energy is absorbed, it can cause the material to get warmer or melt.

Social Studies:   The children will continue working on landmarks of the U.S. and this week world landmarks.  Also, they will be learning what are artifacts and be introduced to famous inventors.
